In our media industry, the name Above The Stream has many meanings. First and foremost, it means that we will strive to be above the stream of competitors, providing high-quality service and products. Additionally, we will be above the stream of technology, utilizing the latest tools and educating ourselves to maximize our efficiency. Maximizing our abilities in all the areas will maximize our potential!
The logo for Above The Stream is very special, and harkens back to the heritage of our Founder, Nick Kawakami. The three vertical lines is the Japanese kanji character for “kawa,” and is the first of the two kanji characters that make up the name, Kawakami. Adding the second character “kami,” meaning above, translates Kawakami to “above the stream.” Of course, the double meaning is meant to also signify our mission to rise above the stream of competitors!
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Nick Kawakami was given his first (albeit disposable) camera when he was 8 years old. Since that day, he has enjoyed photography as a creative outlet to tell stories and document experiences. In 2014, he started Above The Stream as a way to supplement his budding real estate career and gain access to properties to build his education. He still focuses primarily on his real estate career, but enjoys the creative outlet that Above The Stream Provides.
